The Dollies celebrated the closing of a terrific 2012 by having a Holiday Dinner Party, complete with a Cookie Exchange Contest and an Awards Presentation.  Thanks go to Vicki for co-ordinating the food from Border Grill…yummy and spicy Guacamole and everything else made for a delicious dinner.
Suzanne’s World Famous Spectacular Margaritas got the evening off to a “festive” start! Ho Ho Ho
After dinner was over, everyone gathered in the dining room in especially high spirits, to hear the results of the Cookie Exchange Contest. Â Judges Alisa & Lily, joined by Griffith (an outsider who was brought in should there be a tie! ), asked for silence from the crowd as they announced the various categories & award winners. Â Everyone was on pins & needles — well actually the pins & needles were stuffed under the table as this is the same room as where we sew the dollies, but let us continue:
Judges Griffith – Alisa – Lily – and dollie member Kathy
Award #1: Â BEST 3D COOKIE – Suzanne Trepp (who confessed her sister Cathy was the actual baker and she gallantly shared the prize with her)
Cathy (the Baker) and Suzanne (the Margarita Maker)…
Suzanne’s two sons William & Philip were in attendance, and provided their expertise as cookie tasters to the judges when asked…
AWARD #2: BEST NON-COOKIE Â – Anne Cronin
I do not have a photo of Anne’s award winning cookies, however let me tell you that my husband…I will confess my VEGAN husband Bill …was seen grabbing as many of these cookies as possible after the contest was over. He won’t tell you but I will, that he was seen as recently as 3am this morning delving into the refrigerator to partake of a few of them.
Award #3: BEST RECIPE NAME “World Peace Cookies” – Sara Kutler
Sara provided us with a convoluted explanation as to the origin of the name of her cookies, but all I can remember is that her dear husband Jon remarked upon tasting one, “I cannot tell if these are good enough to enter into the dollie contest.  Please let me taste another.  Hmmm…one more.  And one more…” Good thing Jon was not a judge this year, as no one would have any “World Peace”  to carry home!
Award #4: NUTTIEST COOKIES – Laura Schy
Laura’s maple pecan cookies were tasty as can be!
Award #5: Livin’ the Vida Cocoa – Dorothy Miyake
The Trepp boys gingerly handed Dorothy her prize, which was a “Damn it Doll!” …but she won’t need it as when enjoying these delicious cookies, the rich cocoa will keep you dancing the night away!
Award #6: Best Embodies the Dollie Spirit – Cindy Simon
Anyone with a photo-printer and a nearby bakery can make these!
Award #7: BEST USE OF A COOKIE CUTTER: Â Shanna Scott
Teen dollie maker Shanna (whose mother Carrie entered the cookies but gave Shanna, a high school student who stayed home doing homework, all the credit!!!) loves to bake and is so incredibly creative & artistic when doing so.
Award #8: BEST MUSEUM QUALITY: Â Pat Bauer
Pat’s AMAZINGLY BEAUTIFUL award winning cookies are called “Springerle”. Using an old family recipe going back many generations, these cookies took 36 hours to create from start to finish. Pat said you can choose to eat one, or hang it on your Christmas tree as an ornament!
Award #9: GRAND PRIZE WINNER of the 2012 Dollies Cookie Exchange Contest
“Best taste”: Denni Cohen
Once everyone was done clapping and being polite and congratulating Denni , the dollies ladies literally LUNGED over the table to be sure and grab one of these Grand Prize winning cookies.
