Dollies travel to the tiny country of Belize in Central America

This just in from Dollie Ambassador Karen Enzer who traveled to Belize on a humanitarian trip. “Students, faculty, and parents from St. Matthew’s Church and Parish School presented 25 dollies to the  thrilled director (see below) of Holy Cross Anglican Primary School in Ambergris Caye, Belize.  The dollies will be given to kids entering the school when classes resume after summer break.  Most of the students attending Holy Cross live in San Pedro, a slum area built over a swamp.  Roads into San Pedro are limited, and some residents must walk on wooden planks over sewer/sludge water to get to their homes.  The plank walkways have been nicknamed “London Bridges”, because they are always falling down. Children are constantly falling off the “bridges” into the dirty water, resulting in skin infections and illnesses.   Some of the homes are still without running water and electricity.  The families of San Pedro don’t have much, but they appeared happy, friendly, and were always smiling. The school director loved the dollies and it was a special experience for our group to be able to give the school something so cute and fun!”

Thanks Karen for your reflections and this wonderful photo.Â
