Dr Judith Brill from UCLA Ronald Reagan Medical Center in Los Angeles, traveled with other medical professionals affiliated with Operation Smile to Kathmandu, Nepal…taking our dollies & teddys with them.  Dr Brill sent these thoughts:
“The experience was extraordinary, and it was so much fun giving the dolls to the children during screening. We saw about 125 children, and selected about 40 for surgeries, including repair of cleft lips and palates, as well as some hand surgeries for various deformities.  I was touched by the responses of the little girls receiving the dolls…some had never received a gift before, and were overwhelmed and even a little confused to be handed a beautiful doll!  Some slightly older girls (11-14) looked longingly at the big bag of dolls, and I realized that they are more naive and innocent than our kids who seem to have given up dolls by that age!  …We were screening the children in a single large room: nurses, surgeons, pediatricians, anesthesiologists, dentists, speech therapists all together!  It was noisy and crowded and a bit chaotic and some of the kids were scared and overwhelmed.  Thanks again for the privilege of giving the dolls to little girls in Nepal!”
I say it is OUR privilege to be able to give to the girls of Nepal! “To Give is to Receive” .
