San Fernando Woodworkers, San Fernando Quilt makers and Dollies Making A Difference

Each year, members of the San Fernando Valley Woodworkers (SFVW) get together to design and build toys for underprivileged children who receive them as gifts during the holiday season.  Nearly one thousand wooden toys are made each year for (14) charitable organizations in the San Fernando Valley.  These charities then distribute them to the children.  During the year, the woodworkers make the toy parts, and then in October everyone gathers at El Camino Real Charter High School’s wood shop for a two-day Toy Build.

Last spring, Dollie lady Pat Bauer was talking to a friend who told her about the Woodworkers.  Her friend was saying, “These folks create the most beautiful wooden cribs, and their wives are members of The San Fernando Quilt Guild (SFQG) and they sew adorable quilts… and all they need are Dollies to tuck into the cribs.

Pat immediately said, “I know just where to find beautiful Dollies!”

This year Dollies Making A Difference joined in on a partnership with the SFVW and SFQG by donating 120 Dollies to the effort.

I attended the Toy Build and couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw the hundreds of beautiful handcrafted wooden toys:  block trucks, pick-up trucks, white erase boards, mirrors, flat-top boxes, treasure chests, barrel trucks, yoyo’s… AND wooden cribs!

We plan to double our efforts in 2019!
