Dollie lady Pat Bauer introduced Dollies Making A Difference (DMAD) to The San Fernando Valley Woodworkers (SFWW).  This club, which meets in Encino, California, was formed in 1988 by persons who enjoy woodworking.  It is filled with members of all skill levels – both hobbyist and professional. Anyone interested in woodworking is welcome to join their monthly informative meetings where there is a show & tell, lectures, a challenge activity and a Q&A session for anything woodworking related.

Throughout the year, the Woodworkers design and build over 700 wooden toys which they distribute during the Holiday season to underprivileged children in their community through over 14 different charitable organizations. This year-long effort culminates in October when the Woodworkers and other volunteers gather during one long weekend called “Toy Build” to assemble the toys. They have discovered that they “not only enjoy making the toys, but they especially enjoy hearing about the joy the toys bring to the boys and girls who receive them”.  Indeed:  To Give is to Receive!!

SOOOOOOO…. it turns out one of the toys they make are wooden doll cribs. The ladies from The San Fernando Quilt Association work throughout the year sewing lovely small crib quilts.  Each year, the only missing piece are the Dollies to wrap in the quilts and nestle into the cribs – and that is where Dollies Making A Difference comes in!

Cindy and Pat made a presentation in January about the good work we are doing at Dollies Making A Difference, and offered to provide SFWW with 200 Dollies by October… and our offer was accepted!!!

Thank you Pat for introducing DMAD to SFWW.
