Dollie friend and nurse Pat Lasater embarked on a medical mission trip to southern Honduras with church volunteers and doctors/nurses from her parish, All Saint’s Episcopal Church in Beverly Hills, California.  They left on March 1, 2013 for a 7 day trip during which they will serve persons in remote areas of the the country in need of health and medical attention.  They will distribute over 1,800 pounds of medication and 200,000 vitamins….AND our dollies and colorful teddy bears!!
After Pat returned, she sent us this summary of her amazing visit:
” From March 1- March 7 a group of 20 medical missionaries from All Saints Episcopal Church in Beverly Hills, California went to San Pedro Sula  and the Puerto Cortez areas of Honduras to provide basic medical care to 4 poor villages.  The group included 4 medical doctors, 3 nurses, pharmacy workers, dispensers, translators and intake. The clinics are held in 3 small churches and 1 one room school.  We saw over 1200 villagers at our 4 clinics ranging from days old  babies to old folks in their 90’s. Each person was given enough vitamins to last the year and anti- parasitic meds, diabetes medications, hypertension meds, antibiotics and pain meds, etc. if needed. Each child is given a toy and this year 100 lucky children were given your wonderful dollies and teddies.  In many cases we are the only medical providers that the villagers see all year. One of the villages is up on top of a jungle mountain requiring the missionaries to hike up the rustic and rough dirt road for about 45 minutes, crossing several  small rivers and creeks along the way. Our supplies are transported by a truck provided by a generous landowner who lives at the base of the mountain. This was the 15th mission to Honduras. At the end of the 7 day mission the missionaries returned home exhausted yet filled with that  special joy that comes from serving others.”
