Children’s Surgery International is “a Minnesota based non-profit volunteer organization whose focus is to serve the underprivileged of the world by providing specialized medical and surgical services in a safe, compassionate and culturally sensitive manner.” Â We have partnered with Children’s Surgery International on many of their medical mission trips worldwide – this one taken in January of 2013.
The team completed seven (7) facial repair surgeries at the Rangpur Community Medical College Hospital in Bangladesh. Â The surgery below was for a facial cleft, and took over four (4) hours to complete. It required the skill of two (2) of the Minnesota surgeons and was an amazing transformation that will forever change the life of a five month old child. How lucky are we to be a part of this!?
Here is a patient  (below) after her surgery who is slowly making her recovery…with the aid of a colorful teddy bear!
Once the children wake up from surgery, they are given a baggie full of goodies which include one of our dollies or colorful teddy bears. Â This photo below is of anesthetist Celeste “adding an extra dose of love before handing out the dollies and colorful teddy bears to the patients”. Â The nurses and doctors tell us that the children’s delighted reaction to receiving our dollies and teddys never gets old, and once they are in their hands it never leaves their sight!
