Off in the mail today go 40 dollies, each wrapped in her own blanket, and 24 colorful teddy bears, to children at Sandy Hook School in Newtown, Connecticut.  We were given a contact person to ship them to at United Way of Western Connecticut (www.211CT.org).  She assured us she would receive the dollies and teddys, and distribute them to families affected by the school shooting tragedy.  Here is a part of the note we attached:

“After learning of the horrible tragedy in Newtown, Connecticut we knew we must get to work and sew extra special dollies and colorful teddy bears for the young children in the area who must be so confused and troubled by what happened in their wonderful small town.  One member of our group said her grandfather used to have a home and a glass business in Newtown.  Another member said she had just received notice that a sorority sister had lost her son.  Even though we are on the other side of the country, through these connections as well as the myriad of news accounts we receive, we feel connected to the people of Newtown and are yearning to be of service.  We hope our dollies and colorful teddy bears bring some small piece of comfort to the children and  families to whom they are given.”
